- 9:30-10:00AM - Welcome introductions, a reading from the book “Twenty Horses” by the author Nancy Peter.
- 10:00-10:30AM - Tour of the barn and property including stalls, tack room (learn about different types of saddles and bridles), feed room (talk about different kinds of food horses eat) and turnouts (where the horses spend most of their day).
- 10:30-11:00AM - Introduction to grooming supplies, grooming demonstration and opportunity for attendees to groom and pet horses
- 11:00-11:30AM - Enjoy a horseback riding demonstration and final wrap-up.
This family friendly event allows participants (both child and parent/caregiver) to learn about these wonderful animals, pet them and see them being ridden. While there will be NO HORSEBACK RIDING during this program attendees will have the opportunity to get up close to horses and enjoy a behind the scenes tour of the barn including the stalls, feed room, tack room and grooming supplies. Program runs rain or shine! Friendly, experienced horse owners will share their knowledge, answer questions, demonstrate basic grooming and offer participants the opportunity to groom and pet a horse. This program is for children 8 yrs and older and a parent/caregiver must also attend. Limit of ten children plus parent/caregiver (20 people total).

This is an opportunity for you and your child to connect with and learn about horses. Monastery Stables in Wissahickon Park (1000 Kitchens Lane in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia), in partnership with Let’s Go Outdoors, is offering a FREE “Intro to Horses” program on Saturday, June 22nd from 9:30-11:30.
